When most people worry that something is a dream, I usually become a huge smart-ass and point out that if our world were their dream, they would be a lot cooler.

But in a world where guys like “McG” and Brett Ratner are famous, I often wonder. These guys are a new brand of movie director, similar to the young visionaries of the 1970s like Scorcese, Lucas, Speilberg, Coppola, and DePalma.

Similar in that they have redefined what it means to be a director. While those legends from the ’70s took directing to a new level of telling a story visually, this new brand of director in his thirties right now is a mewling puke. Essentially, do you remember your first job (possibly at a fast food chain)? Remember how you thought of your manager?

“He thinks he’s so fucking cool because he’s in charge of this pile of crap?! Well, he can have it! It’s not like he actually does anything besides bark at people and hand out new corporate info.”

That’s the new filmmaker. And if you avoided the Ratner/Olivia Munn controversy several months back, you should watch his bullshit interview. It’s priceless.
